THE MERMAID OF PADSTOW.
Studying for an MA in Creative Enterprise at the University of Reading, Cornish-born Gareth wanted to draw inspiration from Cornish folklore for his final project and came across the legend of the famous Doom Bar of Padstow. Fascinated by this unique tale of mermaids, men and magic, he adapted it into “The Mermaid of Padstow”, using the strong Celtic traditions of storytelling, folk music and beer!
Since its first performances at the Minghella Studios, Reading, "The Mermaid of Padstow" has toured the South West through the Carn to Cove rural touring network, and has also been booked in for one-off shows at unique venues (Jubilee Pool, The Lady Daphne) and festivals.
The show has been designed to be performed pretty much anywhere, so if you're looking for an engaging, 40-minute folktale (with 5 singalong folk songs) for your pub, community hall, theatre or festival, drop Gareth an email and he'll get straight back to you. Gareth also performs a longer version of the show (an hour and a half) which consists of "The Mermaid of Padstow" and other folk tales from the South West and the UK.
A clip of the live show can be seen below or, if you'd prefer to listen to it in its entirety, check out the audio version...
